London East-End Then and Now
We’ve been exploring London east end especially the many public houses that are dotted in and around Bow, Roman Road and the Olympic Park wondering what has happened to them and whether like so many others they have closed.
But quite the opposite has happened; the Green Goose has been refurbished, the Morgan Arms has a new modern look and trendy drinkers, then there’s the Coburn and now sports a beer garden and the Lord Tredegar has fantastic reviews on TripAdviser.
Many may know that Bow and the Bromley-by-bow area ie Three Mills Island was the site where grains were milled to supply the nearby gin distillery and others may know of the new breweries that are thriving in London’s East-end such as the East London Liquor Company: take part in their Whisky Lover’s Tour and Tasting
Of course you can’t mention London East end then and now without including the Brick Lane Music Hall which is now based in Canning Town but which still has raving reviews. Theatre and dining venue based in London’s Docklands, offering a modern take on traditional music hall-style entertainment. Groups and parties welcome. Attracts a younger crowd in the evenings; lunches and “pensioner matinees” available all year round (closed for August). UK Coach award for “Britain’s Friendliest Venue”
London East-End Then and Now also includes the many diverse groups that now call Bow and surrounding areas home and celebrate their success during October Black History Month – one tip is to visit the Ecology Park and the current photographic history exhibition in Tower Hamlets.
