Lockdown 2020 has been an eye-opener for so many people worldwide. Words used to describe this period are: unprecedented, once in a life-time, never experienced this before and the list goes on. But within this period of intense sorry there has been really joyous moments. Below are 2 national events that have been lights of inspiration and hope.

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

As we prepare to mark 50 years of Earth Day in 2020, let’s take a look at the last half-century of mobilization for action:

Rachel Carson’s New York Times bestseller Silent Spring in 1962

Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Time for TEA – Virtual National Tea Day (inspiration no 2)

Lets get together in SolidariTea! Held on 21st April every year, National Tea Day is the official day in the UK to celebrate our love of tea. This year marks National Tea Day’s 5th anniversary. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic our celebrations we will be hosted as the National Virtual Tea Party.

We feel that it’s never been more important to unleash the power of tea in bringing people together to help combat feelings of isolation, loneliness and anxiety. Find out how you get involved all day, online and in self isolation!

Time for a few fun facts about the nation’s favourite hot drink, courtesy of the folks behind National Tea Day:

  • Brits drink an estimated 165 million cups of tea per day! Keep those kettles boiling!
  • Experts claim that 4 cups of tea per day is optimal so that you can get the most health benefits.
  • Those health benefits apparently include a dose of fluoride to protect your teeth. Tea is a natural source.
  • Other purported health benefits include protection from cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer.
